Debenhams|Kat von D Lock-it Foundation review

A couple of weeks ago, I did a post on some of the first Kat Von D products that were available in the UK. I’m a little late in writing this, but the whole range is now available on the Debenhams website and there will also be a concession opening in London on Oxford Street I believe. I assume if all goes well, they will be expanding into other stores nationwide over the next few years.

The first thing I picked up in full size was the Lock it Foundation in shade Light 44. I spent hours and I mean HOURS researching my shade. I have found the onlineness of it all a bit of an arse to be honest and no matter who you ask, they all seem to have a different explanation of the range. This shade is described as a fair alabaster with cool undertones. This is definitely not the right undertone for me, but I can make it work if I mix with a yellow toned foundation.

The packaging of the whole brand is absolutely beaut and I personally feel that £27 really isn’t a large amount to pay for a really good foundation these days. Urban Decay have recently brought out their All Nighter Foundation, which has similar coverage to this. It seems that a full coverage-matt finish is going to be all the rage this winter. With both of these foundations, you absolutely have to use an extremely hydrating primer or oil before applying them. Otherwise, they’ll cling to every dry manky patch of skin on your face-not flattering on anyone.

Another thing about this foundation is how important it is to get your shade right. Because the coverage is so high, the difference between your face and the rest of your body will be more obvious. Unless you live from now until next June in a long sleeved turtleneck..

It lasts well throughout the day and shows little to no shine at all by the end of the day. I personally use a damp beauty blender to apply ¾ of a pump all over my face and then blend out. I find this gives a more daytime appropriate amount of coverage, that still lasts all day. If I could again, I would probably wait until I could get into a store to find my exact shade.

Would I recommend this foundation? Definitely! Will I be buying the right shade soon? For sure. Is it suitable for all skin types? Probably not dry skin, unless you really prep your skin beforehand. For oily skin, I think this foundation would be perfect for you guys.

The whole brand is gluten free and vegan, which is great. The foundation comes with a little stopper that you put in the pump hole between uses that stops any foundation leaking out if you were to travel. I love the little quirks that this whole brand is about – the details. Kat von D Lock-it Foundation is available from Debenhams for £27 for 30ml. Available in 31 shades, good luck in finding yours.
