Without realising it, I seem to have been on a bit of an eyeliner spending spree over the past few months. The reason for this will become apparent in the next post, but basically I have been loving the wing of late. Whether it’s been big or small, I have been rocking one more often than not and this has lead to some loves and hates when it comes to these products. All of these are black, unless otherwise stated. So, let’s begin shall we?..
Firstly there is Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner. At £2.99 it is without a doubt an absolute bargain, but has a really strong chemical smell that I find off-putting. The liner tip is what I would call medium sized with quite a nic point on it. It’s very stiff and reminds me of a Sharpie, which I don’t know about you, but that combined with the smell is enough to put me off. It claims to be long wearing, as with the majority of liners these days, but on me it transfers within an hour to my crease and at the corners. I would not recommend this one at all..
Essence isn’t a brand I have tried a lot of products from and when I saw this in South Africa, I picked it up straight away. What I like about this one is how fine the tip is and also how long it is. There is about ½ centimetre at the end which is much more flexible than the rest. It’s easy to use and very affordable, but unfortunately doesn’t last very long on me at all and isn’t very black. It retails for £2.00 and is available from Wilkos here.
This is one of my favourites of the bunch. The tip is pretty similar but longer than the collection one, but doesnt dry out and even if it does while your using it, just give it a shake and it’s as good as new. The colour is nice and opaque and the tip is quite sturdy, but fine enough to get a semi thin wing. You can pick this up from Boots for £6.99.
The one and only Supercat liner from Soap and Glory is a favourite with lots of people, but for me this just didn’t work. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice and stays on for a considerable amount of time, but as you can see from the swatch it isn’t very back at all. Almost watery. The tip is almost identical to the collection one which is Sharipe like. Something about that doesn’t sit right with me. Maybe I got a dodgy one?… But I’m pretty sure I’ve tried this before and it’s been a fail. It might work for you, so if you’d like to give it a go, you can get it here for £6.00.
Packaging gets really disgustingly dirty (see pic) is my my only con with this one. The tip is skinny, but not too much. It’s really quite black, lasts for an absolute age and maybe one other thing with it is that it seems to dry up really quickly. Other than that, it’s a winner in my book. It costs £6.99 (here), so is more mid range and if you buy it now, there is a promo (buy 1 get 2nd half price on loreal), although I’m not sure how long that will last.
I have put these two together because they’re the only two liquid liners I own. They are by far the blackest formula I have come across, and if you’ve got a steady hand then these are probably perfect. But for someone like me it hasn’t hit the spot. The glam eyes in particular is very wet and takes ages to dry which means it gets everywhere and I mean eyelids, cheeks… Something else is that happens to me is when I’m getting close to my lash line and it gets on my lashes, it makes them dry and crumple together so applying mascara is much harder. I’m going to keep trying with these guys as once they’re dry, they’re amazing stayers. The Topshop Matte Liner (£7.50) is exactly that and if I could find that formula in a pen, I would snap it up immediately. The Rimmel Glam Eyes (£5.29) has much more of a sheen to it, even when it dries and the tip is so small you can do all sorts of amazing if you have the steady hand that I don’t.
I am still on my liner journey and there are so many that I have yet to try. I am going to venture into Gel liner (the ones in the pots) and I will let you know how I get on. Other than that, there is only one other option. Tom Ford. But if you have any other high street suggestions, please please let me know. I would love to have some recommendations.
Thanks for reading and have a lovely day/week/evening.
