Jouer have been around since 2003/2004 and are based in L.A., have around 20-50 employees which is amazing considering they’re worth upwards of something like $1,000,000 dollars a year. Their latest released was entered around a mermaid theme, consisting of highlighters, eye shadows and liquid lipsticks. I Picked up 3 of them, in the shades Papaye, dulce de leche and citronade rose.
The online swatches of these looked amazing and I wanted to go for something that I didn’t already have so went for 2 metallic and one matte. I really like the packaging of these and they have a little grove that somehow links the products together (I haven’t figured out how this works) and even if I do, I don’t really see a point in it. Also, the small lid can be a bit fiddly due to it’s size and the fact that its a square means its not the most comfortable thing to hold.
I’m going to be honest and say that the formulation isn’t consistent with these 3 lipsticks, at all. Papaye isn’t opaque at all and although it kind of works on top of a liner, it crumbles off the worst out of all 3 of them. Secondly there is dulce de leche – a matte cool nude which works well with any makeup look but can be a bit lighter on the lips than it appears in the tube. I really like this one and find it works best when used without a liner and that there isn’t any lip balm on my lips. Even though this isn’t completely opaque, I think thats why it works best if used in a very thin layer. Finally there is Citronade rose – metallic ballet pink. Much more opaque than Papaye but I think it still works better over a lip liner. It definitely does pack punch in the metallic stakes though. The formula of these Jouer Liquid Lipsticks is kinda moussey or maybe even a bit like foam?.. It’s nice, but looks like it will suck the moisture out of your lips and without exaggerating, it does feel a bit like that. The matte one I have is the only one in my opinion that lives up to the name and I think there are better Liquid Lipsticks available on the market. Maybe it’s my preference and I just can’t get onto the whole bandwagon. But if I were you, I would definitely have a shop around or just buy one. After all I’ve only tried 3 out of 17 shades available in the range. You can get the Jouer Long Wear Lip Creme – Liquid Lipstick here for £14 each.
Thank you so much and I hope you enjoyed it.
